The Southern States Football League (SSFL)
The Southern States Football League is comprised of 16 Minor League Football Teams located through out the state of Florida. The teams include the Bradenton Gladiators, Polk County War Eagles, Miami Bulls, Sarasota Millionares, Lee County Spartans, St. Petersburg Sharks, Gulf Coast Raiders, Fort Pierce Fire, Treasure Coast Pirates, East Coast Reapers, Hernando Eagles, Orlando Rage, First Coast Generals, Jacksonville Rams, Florida Titans, and the Florida Barracudas.
Each team is made up of locally talented young men ages 17 and above who did not make the college ranks and therefore could not go forward to the NFL, CFL, WFL, or Arena Ball. The love of the game of football drives these players forward. With the special coaching and motivation that we give them, the players are both exciting to watch and very talented at this level. They rise to the challenge of playing and behaving like the top athletes of the Major Leagues and are the pride of their communities.
The SSFL plays its season in the Southern states from late January through the May, in contrast to the NFL and NCAA seasons that are during the Fall and Winter. This timing presents a wonderful opportunity to leverage more exposure from existing marketing campaigns relating to football (i.e. NFL, NCAA).
The SSFL is diligently working on the expansion of the league to 24 teams and a National playoff tournament involving Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Mississippi. Each state would still play a regular league season with their own states, however there would be a play-off series leading to a much publicized minor league “Super Bowl.” National and regional companies will have the opportunity to take advantage of specialized promotions in different markets and gain exceptional value while supporting a unique non-profit cause. In a recent press release it was announced by Ron Real, President of the American Football Association (AFA) that the SSFL Commissioner Dave Rice was appointed the Southern Regional Tournament Director. Rice assumes responsibility for 99 teams in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Mississippi. Commissioner Rice will work directly in formulating a National Playoff tournament and communication with the NFL. Said Rice “I credit the prestige and reputation of the SSFL developed by our owners, coaches, and players with the appointment. The challenge to develop a National Playoff and bring the attention of our talented athletes to the NFL are positive steps to for Minor League Football and I am looking forward to assisting in these efforts.” The AFA consists of 716 teams in 62 leagues with some 75,000 active participants.
